Master of Public Health Degree Program

The Master of Public Health (MPH) degree program provides students an opportunity to complete a course of study that leads to a professional degree.  Students enrolled in this program will expand their knowledge base in public health; develop, extend, and sharpen their professional skills; boader their perspectives on public health issues; and prepare to assume leadership roles in public health.

The basic requirement of the M.P.H. degree is the completion of a minimum of 42 credits of academic work depending upon area of concentration, and practice experience. Candidates may enroll either full time, in which case they should be able to complete degree requirements in three semesters and an intervening summer, or part time, in which case they are expected to complete degree requirements within three years of matriculation.

Community Health Education

The total number of credits required for graduation is 42, 12 of which must be earned in Public Health core courses
(SPHHS 605, SPHHS 606, SPHHS 615, and SPHHS 616); 18 in Community Health Education core courses (HPP601, HPP602, HPP608, HPP620, HPP622, HPP704); 6 credits through elective courses; 3 credits for the Applied Practice Experience; and 3 credits for the MPH Capstone, which is fulfilled by completing an MPH project.

Health Policy and Management

The total number of credits required for graduation is 42, 12 of which must be earned in Public Health core courses
(SPHHS 605, SPHHS 606, SPHHS 615, and SPHHS 616), 3 credits for the practicum experience, 3 credits for culminating experience, which is fulfilled by completing a M.P.H. project; and 24 credits from Health Policy and Management
courses. Health Policy and Management required courses include HPP 620, 624, 622, 616, 726 and 621. The remaining
6 Health Policy and Management courses are earned through elective courses.

All M.P.H. students are required to complete a practicum as part of their degree requirements.
Practicum experiences may be paid or unpaid. The culminating experience is fulfilled by completing an M.P.H. project in the context of a capstone course (SPHHS 691).
