Accelerated Masters Program
Undergraduate students from UMass Amherst and the Five College Consortium are eligible to pursue the 4+1 (i.e., typically one additional year of course work study beyond the B.S. degree) or accelerated M.S. program. Students are eligible for admission if they meet the following requirements:
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 is required for admission to the 4+1 program. A student with a GPA of 3.5 will qualify automatically for admission without the need of letters of recommendation. A student with a GPA between 3.0-3.5 will need to submit at least one letter of recommendation from an MSE-affiliated faculty member.
- The applicant is expected to have received education and training in a STEM field at UMass Amherst, i.e., in any of the Engineering departments, Chemistry, or Physics. Requests for admission from students from outside of these disciplines will be considered on a case-by-case basis and will require a letter of recommendation from an MSE-affiliated faculty member.
- Evidence that an applicant is capable of doing excellent graduate work in the areas encompassed by the MSE program.
