How to Explore / Get Started in the MajorSuggested General Education CoursesUnder the new guidelines students are still required to take two courses, one in U.S. Diversity and one in Global Diversity. Students entering in Fall 2018 are expected to take one of these diversity courses, either U.S. or Global, in their first year on campus. For Fall 2018 Registration, look for courses with DU (formerly U) and DG (formerly G) to help students stay on track. Any course labled DU will satisfy the requirement for a U.S. diversity course and any course labeled DG will satisfy the the requirement for Global diversity course. Suggested Major and Pre-requisite CoursesThe prerequisite for this major is a 24-credit language sequence: CHINESE 126, 246, 326 and 327. First-year students who wish to pursue the major should take:
NOTE: For students starting in the Spring semester, the course sequence should be CHINESE 110, then CHINESE 120, followed by CHINESE 246 How to Declare the MajorThe best time to apply is during the freshman year, but students can also apply as sophomores. Language courses require a grade of "C" or better in specific prerequisites. Transfer Students:Students should consult with their assigned advisor at the beginning of the semester; do not wait until the advising period. Summary of Requirements for the MajorMimimum total # of credits required: 55 (including the four-semester, 24-credit language sequence in intensive modern Chinese)
