How to Explore/Get Started in the MajorSuggested General Education CoursesAll Undergraduates are required to satisfy the General Education Requirements. Guidelines for students are available at https://www.umass.edu/gened. Students should take General Education courses in Biology, Psychology, Mathematics, College Writing, etc.
Suggested Major and Pre-requisite CoursesStudents may take COMM-DIS 210, Introduction to Communication Disorders, in either the Fall or Spring semester. How to Declare the MajorFor current & admitted students: This major is unrestricted, which means any student may declare the major. Unrestricted majors may still have an entry process such as meeting with an advisor or attending an informational meeting. Declaring the major no later than the sophomore year is preferred. If entering the major as a new freshman or transfer student, no application is required. All other students must attend an informational meeting or meet with the Undergraduate Program Director or Advisor. Summary of Requirements for the MajorMinimum total # of credits required: 43 This is a pre-professional major for students who want to continue to graduate study to become speech-language pathologists or audiologists. Graduate school is essential for professional employment as a speech-language pathologist or audiologist.
