The MajorThe undergraduate major in Portuguese consists of 36 credits. None of these credits may be taken Pass/Fail, and a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher must be obtained in courses counted toward the major. Entering students who wish to major in Portuguese and are at the intermediate level are urged to take PORTUG 246, an intensive course that enables them to begin the major the following semester. RequirementsI. Pre-major preparation: (6 credits)230 Intermediate Portuguese I II. Major Core: (12 credits)One of the following courses: One of the following courses: Two of the following three courses: III. Upper-level courses (12 credits)To complete the major in Portuguese, the student is required to take four upper-level courses chosen with the advisor's approval. Two of these courses may be taken in areas related to the major (History, Anthropology, Art, etc.). Courses taken outside of the Department must be at the 300 level and above.
