UMA Undergraduate Guide 2019-2020 Academic Departments and Programs Pre-Medical and Pre-Health Advising The Pre-Medical Advisers
The Pre-Medical AdvisersThe Pre-Med/Pre-Health advisors consult with all students interested in medicine, dentistry, physician assistant, optometry, chiropractic, pharmacy, and other health professions fields. It is recommended that any student interested in a health professions graduate program meet with a Pre-Med/Pre-Health advisor as early as possible during their undergraduate years. All interested students, regardless of academic major or college, and all transfers, continuing education, second bachelor's degree, and graduate students, should meet with an advisor at the Pre-Med/Pre-Health office by making an appointment. This allows the student to take advantage of advice and counseling from the advisors. The advisors also assess the student's academic performance at the University and recommend enriching extra-curricular activities that will support the student's competitiveness as an applicant. Pertinent information and materials on graduate health professions programs such as pre-requisite courses and acceptance data are also available in the Pre-Med/Pre-Health Office. Letters of evaluation (or Committee Letters), required by medical and dental schools, are written by the Pre-Med/Pre-Health advisors and first hand knowledge of the student is essential for this process. |
