The department offers eight programs leading to the B.A. degree: (1) Chinese Language and Literature, (2) Japanese Language and Literature, (3) Comparative Literature, (4) French and Francophone Studies, (5) Italian Studies, (6) German and Scandinavian Studies, (7) Spanish, and (8) Portuguese. Many of these programs offer multiple tracks and several offer joint programs with other departments, such as Linguistics. The department offers a stimulating, multilingual, and cosmopolitan environment for literary and cultural studies; study abroad is highly encouraged.
