Career Opportunities

Anthropology provides an important foundation and valuable skills needed for a wide variety of occupations. The cross-cultural and comparative perspectives offered by anthropology--as well as the critical thinking, cultural competencies and ethics, research methods and data analysis, and creative and professional writing skills learned through anthropological practice--constitute excellent preparation for a career in medicine and health, government and public policy, international relations, non-profits and community development, personnel management, human services, education, and sales and marketing. Also, as high schools begin to introduce anthropology courses into the curriculum, the need for teachers with a strong foundation in anthropology is increasing. At present, the demand for anthropologists at the B.A. level is rapidly increasing for jobs in cultural resource management, the health care field, and international programs. In addition, many Anthropology majors attend graduate school, although not necessarily in anthropology since the B.A. in Anthropology can prepare students for graduate study in science, social science, and the humanities.
