The Field

Labor Studies is an interdisciplinary field. It uses sociology, history, law, economics, and labor relations to understand the forces that shape the lives of workers. As the workforce and labor movement become more feminized, transnational, and diverse, the field focuses more and more on the role of women, people of color, immigrants, and the LGBT community in the workplace and in unions.
