The Minor

Students majoring in other departments are offered the opportunity of an academic concentration in Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies through the interdisciplinary minor. Students work with a faculty advisor to design a course of study reflecting their particular areas of interest. Graduates have found a minor in Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies to be an excellent asset in competing for placement in professional fields and graduate programs. Students considering a minor should contact the academic advisor in the department and check all relevant regulations.

Requirements

Students make an appointment with the Chief Undergraduate Advisor.  A minimum of 18 credits in Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies is required; applicable courses are listed each semester in the Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies Course Offerings Guide. The 18 credits must include WGSS 201 Gender and Difference: Critical Analyses, and at least one three or more credit course in the Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies department 200 level and above.  The remaining credits may be earned in Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies courses, in approved courses in other departments or in listed component courses.  Component classes only count if the paper or project done by the student focuses on Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies. Elective credit may also be earned, when approved, in independent studies or practica related to the minor (to a maximum of six credits). Transfer courses can be accepted upon review.
