Career Opportunities

The undergraduate major in psychology provides students with the analytic, communication, and research tools that are desirable in many careers. Students who graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in psychology apply these skills to their jobs in schools, hospitals, government, and business. Those students who wish to pursue a psychology-specific career, such as becoming a professional psychologist, researcher, or licensed therapist pursue graduate training in more specific sub-fields. In most cases this means earning a Master’s degree (approximately two years) or a doctorate (approximately five to six years). Psychology majors also enter graduate programs in related areas such as social work, gerontology, legal studies, or medically-oriented fields.
