Career and Field Experience Advising

Sixty-five percent of UMass students pursue experiential learning opportunities well before graduation. These include completing an internship, co-op, research, study abroad, service learning, job shadowing or contributing to ongoing faculty research projects at this University or elsewhere. Students are assisted by a network of resources to learn how to apply for such positions, and for obtaining job searching skills to seek employment, or graduate and professional school after graduation. The College of Natural Sciences Career & Professional Development Center in Morrill II Room 321 (www.cns.umass.edu/careers) provides science-focused one-on-one career advising, 24/7 online career resources, and workshops on career development topics such as targeted Resume and Cover Letter Writing, Career Fair Preparation, How to Search for an Internship or Job, self-promotion through LinkedIn and other social media, and Interview Preparation. Field-specific job and internship Career Fairs are held year round, and daily walk-in resume reviews are provided by CNS Career Peer Advisors. Students also enjoy exclusive access to Handshake (https://umass.joinhandshake.com), an online recruiting platform which includes a comprehensive database of jobs and internships, searchable by major and updated daily, as well as ongoing listings of Career Events and Fairs and Information Sessions.
