Career Opportunities

Microbiology is at the forefront of innovation.  Graduates with a B.S. degree find jobs in a vast array of positions in the robust biotechnology industry, the food production and food safety industry, research labs affiliated with medical schools and research institutions, local and regional government agencies, fuel production and remediation, environmental health institutions, and health care organizaitons.  Graduates are also prepared for less obvious careers in science communication, public policy and law, pharmaceutical and technology sales, environmental consulting, and adjacent specialties in healthcare and pubic health.

Successful completion of the major is an excellent preparatory route for admission into an M.S. or Ph.D. program, as well as the professional schools of medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine.
