The Major

The Operations & Information Management (OIM) major prepares you for a variety of careers related to information systems and supply chain management in almost any industry. You could potentially serve as a business analyst, supply chain analyst, operations manager, a consultant, or even start your own business. These roles are central to any team—they make business efficient and effective, base their decisions on sound, empirical evidence, and develop a holistic understanding of how a business functions. The OIM curriculum prepares students to understand all facets of building and running a business. Among other topics, you'll learn about:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Analytics & Visualization
  • Demand Planning
  • Database Systems
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Project Management
  • Transportation & Logistics
  • Enterprise Systems & Business Processes
  • Quality Assurance

OIM graduates are troubleshooters, planners, mappers, taskmasters, and they know their data. Our degree program at Isenberg can prepare you to:

  • Analyze data and make empirically-based recommendations to improve business performance
  • Make decisions that impact the creation and delivery of goods and services
  • Use technology-driven, process-oriented thinking to manage and improve business processes and operations
  • Design and implement key improvements to create effective and efficient businesses across a variety of industries

Students majoring in Operations & Information Management may choose one of three concentrations. Many students elect to take courses in both operations management and information systems and, therefore, declare the Integrated Operations Management & Analytics track. Those students wishing to focus more heavily on information systems and analytics or supply chain management declare either the Information Systems & Analytics track or the Supply Chain Management track. The curriculum is flexible and includes courses that satisfy the Certificate in Business Analytics and the Information Technology Minor. OIM students may also earn an SAP Student Recognitions Award by completing these courses supported by the SAP Business Suite: Business Processes and Enterprise Systems, Business Intelligence and Analytics, Information and Project Management, and Machine Learning in Business.
