The Field

The field of Film Studies encompasses the ways of understanding and exploring cinema in multiple interdisciplinary and multicultural contexts. It involves the examination of the history, theory, criticism, aesthetics, and stylistic techniques of cinema as a medium of artistic expression and communication. And it includes as well the study of the film industry as a rich cultural institution and entertainment medium. A grounding in the discipline of film studies is requisite for success in that other, complementing facet of the discipline, film production.
