Career Opportunities
Social and behavioral science majors develop strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills; an understanding of how people relate to each other; and confidence in their ability to learn and grow on the job. These are the very skills employers say they seek in new hires. Graduates enter careers in a wide variety of fields, including law, nonprofit administration, economics and financial analysis, urban and regional planning, public policy, landscape architecture, marketing, education, international relations, public relations, television and radio broadcasting, journalism, and advertising. Our top employers are a good example of this variety and include Fidelity Investments, Oracle, Dell Technologies, Wayfair, The TJX Companies, Inc., Teach for America, and Mass General Brigham, to name just a few.
Career and Professional Development Advising
As part of SBS Pathways, students begin their career and professional development early in their college journey to ensure a well-rounded university experience and a successful transition from school to work or further study. The SBS Center for Career & Professional Development (part of the SBS Pathways Center) provides programs, skill building, and advising to students in the college.
Staff are available to help students make intelligent, well-informed professional development and career choices, and to provide undergraduates with opportunities to obtain experience through shadowing alumni at work, completing internships, and service-learning programs. We have strong and dedicated alumni in SBS who make a variety of opportunities available to SBS majors, and they are an integral part of our programming.
