The Field
The program for undergraduate Portuguese majors focuses on improving the use of the language for professional and academic purposes, and, at the same time, it exposes students to topics related to the history, culture, political institutions, film, literature and music of the Portuguese-speaking populations around the world. The Portuguese major allows students to learn about Portuguese-speaking migrants to the US, their heritage and influence in American culture. Students have the opportunity to work with local Portuguese-speaking communities to develop their language and social skills. Majors and minors are encouraged to study abroad in a Portuguese-speaking country; the Portuguese advisor can help design your study abroad experience in Portugal or Brazil.
